Dead animals on I-80 were a priority and frankly were the reason we were kept on call. If an animal was hit on a local road we knew it wasn’t likely to cause any further accidents so they were level two and further down the line on the list of priorities. The young man who was working with me I will call Burt because I don’t want to use his real name any more than my own. Neither of us did anything wrong but I know i don’t want to be associated with this story when it comes to my peers at work and I am going to assume this young man doesn’t want to be either. Burt and I arrived on the scene and there was only one cop still there. The animal bodies had been dragged off to the side of the highway so all we had to do was to hook them up to a wench which was on both flatbeds. The wench would pull them up onto the flatbeds where we would secure them and haul them away. It is a tedious job that can be done easily by yourself but that is extra easy when you have another person there to help the body or bodies to get pulled up onto the flatbed. A board is sent along to help slide the body up onto the flatbed and when have an extra person you can have one on each side of the board to help guide the body up. next page | |
