Bigfoot is found dead in the road
The man who found bigfoot dead in the road In 2021 in the central part of Oregon a man named Sweeten Thaimes was driving down the road shortly after dusk when he came upon a large animal laying in the road. It was covered in black fur, and was very big. He drove around it and approached it from that direction. He wasn’t sure what he was seeing, other than it was a large animal of some kind. He had bothered to grab a pencil-flashlight off his dash, which he jammed into his hat under his ear. It worked perfectly to see and keep your hands free. Shining the light all over it he was really puzzled that he didn’t recognize the animal because there are not many large animals in the northern hemisphere that have a long, flowing fur. Further odd was that to his knowledge the only animal with jet black fur that was anywhere close to this one’s size, would be the black bear. So he got out of his truck with extreme caution. He had a chainsaw for protection. First he tried to tell if if was a black bear by viewing it from the angle of it being directly behind his pickup. When he couldn’t tell from that view he went around to the left of it and tried to see what it was by being perpendicular to the direction the road was going. He kept a distance from it and because of that he still wasn’t sure what it was he was looking at in the roadway. By that point he had a look at it from all four directions. If it was on a map he had seen it from the north, south, east and west. However from all those angles he couldn’t make out its head in relation to its body. It was sort of in a ball or rolled up in a manner that was hiding its head. The fur on the animal was too long in places, to belong to a black bear. There were other spots on the rather long body, which had shorter length fur but those spots didn’t seem to be as thick with fur as what he would have expected. So the thought that it might be a black bear with a bad case of mange crossed his mind. Most the times you see a mangy animal, of any kind, it usually does not look healthy even despite the lack of fur. They usually are very thin, sometimes to the point of looking like they are starving. That was not the case with this animal. It looked healthy weight-wise. But its fur was not the thick, short-hair that one expects to see on a black bear. It was a coat which seemed to be with a fur or hair which was longer than you would see on a black bear, especially longer in places like along its limbs. Following the length of one of its limbs was when Sweeten suddenly felt his heart in his throat. He saw one of the feet. Immediately he knew what he was looking at, though they were not suppose to exist. He was looking at a bigfoot. The head was still buried in its mass of fur and body but there was no mistaking that foot for anything else. The pad underneath had no fur on it but the sides and top of the foot were covered in that jet black fur. He noticed the fur on the feet was not as long and flowing as it appeared on the limbs. Sweeten stood looking at it for some time. Finally he went back inside his truck and sat there with his chainsaw by his side, trying to decide what to do with what he had found. Sweeten had seen videos on Youtube, and had read stories that supposedly were true. Those stories and videos usually gave the impression that if you found any proof of bigfoot existing, that the men in black suits would come visiting, and take whatever proof you had. He didn’t know if that was true, but he did hear it had happened. To some guys not terribly far from where he was currently located, in fact. The two men were supposedly out hunting somewhere just south of Grants Pass Oregon when they came upon a skeleton of something which was over eight feet in length. They contacted the authorities and were to told to wait for them to arrive. When they did, they took the evidence and told the two men this never happened. What could they do? Sweeten didn’t want that to happen. He never would have considered shooting a bigfoot but here he had one that was dead, still in fairly good shape. The keyword in that sentence being dead. He wasn’t entirely sure it was dead. What if he decided to take it’s body into town and while in the midst of loading the thing, which didn’t smell very good by the way, it was to wake up? He felt confident it was not going to shake hands and thank him. If he drove off and left it, even to go get help, and it was discovered by somebody else, or woke up, he was going to be out of a lot of money. What to do? Sweeten decided that life was more important than money. So therefore he definitely was decided he was not going to try and load that four hundred pound beast into his pickup bed. He had a chain so he pulled it out of the back of his truck. He had one end of it and let the rest of the chain vacate the back of the pickup by leaving one link at a time, so it made a rattle, rattle sound because of chain links slapping against the truck bed floor and then up onto the tailgate which was in the down position. It was just a leap from that point to the ground. The chain made that rattle, rattle sound all the way until the other end leapt off the tailgate. Sweeten bent down and picked up the chain, and then he got an idea. He went into his truck cab and came out with a bolt and nut. He went to the chain and fashioned it into a slip not using the bolt and chain to connect the part of the chain that would let the rest of the chain to slide through it. Next he hooked the chain around his trailer hitch. Then as quietly as he could, he crept up to the foot sticking out which was closest to him. He let the chain lasso drop down onto the creature’s foot and then he took off running for his truck. He hopped in and looked into his rearview mirror half expecting to see the creature up and racing toward his truck. When he saw it in the mirror it was clear it had not moved. He tried to remember if he had ever seen its stomach or any part of its body move. Something to indicate it was breathing, but he could not remember seeing anything of the sort. He started the truck up and slowly took the slack out of the chain until it pulled tight around the creature’s foot. The animal still did not move. He watched for another couple of minutes thinking to himself what would he do if the creature did get up at this point? He had it caught in the chain and it would not be freed until the slack was taken out of the chain. For that to happen at this point it would require something pulling on the chain where it wrapped around the animal’s foot, in order to loosen up the chain enough for the creature to get its foot out of the noose. Of course it could come free easier but it was his experience that chains used in such a fashion often would get caught on one of the links which would prevent the noose from loosening. Sweeten very much did not want that scenario to happen if the creature were to prove to be alive. He decided to go so he slowly began going down the road, dragging the big hairy creature behind the truck by one leg. He kept going down the road alone, in the darkness, pulling that eight foot long, four to five hundred pound, jet-black hairy creature. He never went more than thirty miles an hour, not wanting to make the corpse look any worse than was necessary. Several times he thought of stopping and trying to load the body into the back of his pickup truck. Then he would start thinking about what would happen if it did come to life? He needed to travel about another ten miles to reach the blacktop and from there it was probably another fifteen miles to the nearest town. Sweeten started thinking about what kind of money this was going to put in his pocket. He dreamed of buying a house, a boat, and a new truck. Could he swing all that out of a dead bigfoot? Well worse case scenario he figured people would pay five, maybe even ten bucks a person to look at it. That is, if he was able to keep the face from being really mangled. Well he would have to take his chances because he wasn’t getting out while alone on this road to try and load the thing into the back of his truck. He got about five more miles and then the greedy side of him decided he needed to go see if the face was okay, or if it was being scrubbed off because of the gravel it was being dragged on. He stopped the truck and got out. It moved! He thought he saw it move. Now he was really unsure of what to do? He stood there for probably five minutes waiting to see what the creature would do? It was a warm, summer night so he was not uncomfortable standing out there in the night air but he was uncomfortable wondering if the creature was alive? He totally had forgot about worrying what was happening to the creature’s face. Now he just wanted to make sure it was dead. The only way he was going to do that at this point however was to drag it further down the road. He would see if it showed any signs of life when he got to the intersection where the gravel ran into the blacktop. He figured it was another five miles. Sweeten got back into the truck and turned the key. It cranked for a second and then gave out. He quickly turned the lights out and tried again. Once again the battery tried for a second and then the starter made a spinning sound, so he let off the key. The battery was dead. He was lucky he always carried a spare in the toolbox behind the cab. He also had a starter and an alternator in there. Hopefully it wouldn’t come to that, but if necessary he had it. First thing he was going to do however was to unhook the chain off the trailer hitch and take it over to the fence that was running along the gravel road. He would hook the chain around one of the fence posts while changing the battery out. Better safe than sorry. If the creature woke up, it would be chained to the fence post. He didn’t bother to do the math / geometry, but he figured if the creature did happen to wake up, that it wouldn’t be able to reach him until it had pulled the fence post out and broke free from the wire. Any luck at all he should be able to get the fresh battery into the truck and get going before there was any further problems. Of course he was totally freaked. Standing out in the dark, the kind of dark where you can see all the stars, on a clear summer night, with a bigfoot less than a quarter of a football field from where he was standing, took a toll. Sweeten liked to think he had more brass than most but this was really taxing his resolve. Sweeten was almost sixty. He had a son from his second marriage who he was close that he would have loved to leave sitting pretty in the financial department. Plus he imagined this was his last chance, when he thought there was none left to be had, for him to leave this world with his name carrying some sort of meaning to it. The man that proved bigfoot is real. He smiled, he liked it. That would work. He got the chain over and hooked up to the fence post and then ever so quietly tip-toed his way back over to the truck. It took too long but he finally got the tool box opened and the fresh battery out from under the stuff that had went into the box after the battery. Next he found the wrench to untighten the battery posts. He glanced over toward the big pile of fur still in the road and then opened the truck door so he could unlatch the hood. An audible pop echoed through the darkness as the hood gave way and came up a little bit to announce it now could be opened using the latch under the grill. Sweeten went around to the front of the pickup and opened up the hood. Then he began loosening the battery posts, taking a second every once in a while to look up over the opened hood to make sure the creature was still there. It was. He went back to removing the battery posts and then stopped cold. Something was wrong. He glanced back up over the hood and really looked closely at the heap of fur in the road. It seemed closer. That was what was off. The darn thing seemed like it was closer. That was crazy though. If it was alive and had regained consciousness it would have been going nuts trying to get loose. Still he was having trouble shaking it. One thing you learn as you get older is to start trusting your abilities more. You learn over the years what you’re good at, and what you’re not. Now if the task was to make a pineapple upside down cake, Sweeten would have not trusted his ability to get it right. No way. The opposite was true when it came to him judging distances. He was pretty good at distances. It was what was sticking in the back of his mind. The pile of fur seemed closer to his truck than before. He hurried and got the old battery out and replaced it with the new battery. Next he placed the cables back on the posts and began tightening them. That was when he heard the clink. There definitely was a clink. It had to be the chain. Did he leave a part of it where it could be caught on something, and then the wind caused it to fall onto itself? Something caused the chain to clink against itself. He quickly finished tightening the battery cables onto the battery posts and then he reached up to pull the hood down. Another clink! This time there was definitely a clink! He used his foot to slide the old battery over out of the way of the truck tire, to the outside of the tire. Then he slammed the truck hood shut and bolted for the truck cab. Behind the pickup he could hear in the darkness the sound of the chain being pulled at a high speed as it raced across the slack of itself. As this was happening and Sweeten was racing from the spot in front of his truck around to where he was opening the door and getting inside; in his mind he was doing some very fast figuring. When he tied off the chain over to the fence, how much slack remained? Could the creature reach the pickup before it ran out of slack? Funny how much your mind can cover in the span of what was probably two seconds. Sweeten had time to consider not only whether the creature would be able to reach his pickup but also how long he thought he would have if it did come up short? With any luck the fencepost was made out of hedge wood which is incredibly strong, especially when it has had time to season over years of being in the ground. The do have a point where they lose their strength, but most posts which were of any size, would withstand the first assault by a bulldozer if the post were deep enough in the ground. He had attached the chain to a strong fence post. The hedge fence post would hold its ground against the initial lunge by the creature but he imagined after that, once the creature was aware it was still being held back, that it would use its massive strength to pull the fence from where it had stood for oh so many years. When that happened he had better have that truck started and moving because the creature was sure to be hard after him. It very much went down the way his mind imagined it. The creature was held at bay just yards from the back of the pickup. Sweeten cranked that key and forcibly made himself not slam the foot feed down lest he flood the engine. His forced patience paid off because the truck roared to life just as the big beast reached back and took hold of the chain holding his leg. It gave a massive pull while letting out a terrifying roar and the fence line came free. At the same time Sweeten slammed the gas and the truck threw gravel behind itself as the truck sped away from the scene. He got to the intersection where the blacktop road ran perpendicular to the gravel road and stopped. He looked back in the rear view with the brake lights providing a red hue of light as to what was behind him. The creature was not there. He had outrun it. It nagged at him, the knowledge that he had a once-in-a-lifetime discovery that would have changed his and his son’s lives forever, slip through his hands. As he sat there at the intersection he realized it was his chance, for all practical sake, his last chance, at any such fame and fortune. Sweeten tried to imagine how it could go that things ended up working out for him. The best he could imagine was if he turned around now and went back, there was a chance he would still catch the creature while it was chained to the barbed wire fence line. If that were the case then the creature was likely to be as far off the road as possible so not to be spotted by cars driving by. It could use the time to figure out a way to get free from the chain. He didn’t think the beast was strong enough to break the chain. At least not without it having the chain attached to something solid on at least one end. It wasn’t a log chain but it was about two sizes bigger than the average dog chain. In other words it might not be such a strong chain as to withstand brute force from the creature but if the creature was unable to get the chain to hold to something that was sturdy, then it presented a much tougher escape. Picture a bicycle locking chain. What makes them so effective is not only the combination lock, but also the fact that they cannot easily be worked into a position where brute force can be a factor in freeing the chain. What if someone else came along while the bigfoot was chained to the fence line? They might call the cops and end up getting credit for the capture. He wasn’t about to have that happen. Sweeten was old school however and he did not have a cell phone. If he wanted to call the law, he would need to make the trip into town. He decided in the end to go to the town and call the cops. It wasn’t worth getting killed trying to capture the animal on his own. Sweeten drove into town and called the authorities. What showed up was a county deputy sheriff. He told the cop his story which went over like a balloon filled with hot bacon grease. It was about midnight or later when the LEO (law enforcement officer) showed up to escort Sweeten back down to the place on the gravel road where his truck had been broke down. The old battery he left, was still sitting there. Seemingly unbothered. However as they went further down the gravel road they could see where the barbed wire fence had been yanked out of the ground for several fence posts in a row. And then they could see how the fence had been dragged what appeared to be away from the road so the fence made a V-shape going into the brush and darkness. The officer used his search light to aim over in that direction but they saw nothing moving. Sweeten wasn’t excited at all of the prospect of following the barbed wire fence to where the V-shape came to a point. It stretched into the brush and darkness far enough that even the LEO didn’t want to go back in there at that time. He said he could wait until it was light out and Sweeten was in full agreement. Sadly he realized he was going home no better off than before all the excitement happened. The cop reminded him that he still saw something that very few people ever get to see. Nothing could take that away from him. Sweeten agreed half-heartedly and drove home. The End. | |
