| We walked down the river along the banks. I ended up being out in front of everybody else. I thought if I got to the area where they were at before Uncle Claude, that i would find the first arrowhead. We eventually came to an area where both sides of the river were rock that climbed upwards and away from the river on one side and on the other there was an outcropping that hung over about a third to half of the river. There was about four feet clearance from the water up to the outcropping of rock that hung over the river. It created a dark shadowed area which none of us really paid much attention at first. The stream had a swift current that curved around a spot that looked to be mostly rock and then it actually dove under the outcropping so that about a third of the stream was running under the rock outcropping. None of us will ever know if it was sitting in the darkness watching us as we worked our way closer and closer. Or perhaps it was under the water and when it came up for air, was as surprised as we were to see it. I believe it had been under the water and had surfaced because what got our attention to look back over there was the sound of something surfacing against the swift current of water. We had actually walked past that spot but it got our attention when we heard the sound of something coming up out of the water that was rushing against it. next page |  |
