Bigfoot in Mark Twain Forest

At Safe Distance

Dolly McCabe was fourteen in 2012. At that time she lived on land that backed up to the Mark Twain National Forest about five miles from a trubutary of the White River. The old two-story house where she and her parents lived was on a gravel road that was not even on many maps, or that was the joke everyone told.

The surrounding land was all forest and much of it lowlands some out and out swamp. There was a low-water bridge on the gravel road about a third of a mile from her house and beyond it was where another gravel road intersected. It was from that point she had to walk to and from the school bus in the mornings and late afternoons. She was the third from the last kids to get off the bus and the third earliest to get on.
