Wisconsin Dogman I was driving home with my wife bacl om 2010 on a Saturday night late about half an hour past midnight during September. It was one of those dark, misty nights that wasn’t quite raining but you definitely felt the moisture in the air. We were on state road seventy seven coming back from a wedding in Minnesota and had just crossed over into Wisconsin when we came around a curve and saw a deer lying in the road and it was still alive and was trying to get back up on its feet but it was obviously incapable. I didn’t see any visible harm to its body but the thing was either too exhausted or maybe too sick to even get off the road. The way it acted gave me an impression that whatever was wrong with it wasn’t due to it being sick. It kept turning its head over its shoulder like it expected something to come out of the darkness and end it. I was still sitting in the car deciding what to do., My wife and I both sat there looking at the poor thing and apparently it had enough time to catch its breath because it fumbled its way to its feet and ran off past our car which was really weird because you would have expected the deer to have run away from our car, not towards it. The deer raced past my wife’s side of the car actually grazing it and then was behind us and gone into the night. A second later I got the scare of my life. My wife screamed so loud that to this day I think my hearing on that side is not back one hundred percent. The thing seemed to appear from the darkness. It came from my side of the road coming into the view just catching the edge of the headlights and if it had just kept going I am not sure I would have even registered seeing it but when it came out of the darkness running on all fours as soon as it hit the light it stood up. The thing stood seven feet tall and had black fur, a black dog face with a short snout and big fangs that showed when it snarled at us. This all happened so quickly. The creature coming out of the darkness so close to where we were in the car. My wife screaming like she’d just been shot. The deer having just bounced off our car on my wife’s side. I was looking first at the sound of the deer having grazed the car and then my wife screaming while I am turning to see what she is screaming at, and then seeing that seven foot dog thing standing up at the edge of the headlights the only thing I could think to do was to hit the gas as hard as I could. The car spun past where all that was going on like a rocket ship and I didn’t start slowing down until I was sure we were way safe. The End | |
